Get Rich Quick

Most people I have met don’t believe in get rich quick schemes, I guess the message that you have to work for what you want resonates with most of us and very few of us win the lottery (I keep hoping I will, but I am told my odds would be better if I bought a ticket). So in lieu of an inheritance or lottery cash we work and know that it takes time to build a career and usually our rewards are in proportion to our effort. Oddly, I have noticed as I speak with potential clients or people that are intrigued when they learn that I am a fitness professional there is a theme; how can I lose weight quickly. I don’t think anyone has ever liked my answer.
I believe there are fasts and fad diets that will drop some pounds, I remember a friend describing the cabbage soup diet and how he spent his days enduring bowl after bowl of cabbage soup and many hours on the porcelain throne. He did lose weight quickly and when he discontinued the diet he put the weight back on quickly. It has been my experience that fad diets and extreme fasts and workouts are not sustainable and do not provide lasting results.
As I see it, it’s just like your career, you need to make concerted daily effort with a knowledge that it takes time to see results. Sometimes we have great stretches of progress and sometimes we take a step back, but it is a journey of striving for long term health. In my youth I myself tried many crazy diets and hoped for a get rich quick idea to change my life, but I have learned that if it seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. This may seem pessimistic, however I see it as comfort. Working to make a career in a field I love is marvelous and sometimes hard work but seeing the results of my efforts creates a pride that empowers me to stay the course.
